Comment: Congratulations on an excellent website with great links - I have found the material by the American CAPT George Duffy to be truly brilliant - imagine being a POW of both the Germans and Japanese in the same war (WW2) ! The Australian military records do show that quite a number of Australians had served in WW1 with distinction, but then also volunteered for WW2 and were sadly taken POW by the Japanese. So many of them perished under the Japanese yoke. LEST WE FORGET

HE WAS IMPRISONED IN SINGAPORE, CHANGI, MT PLEASANT, AND THOMSPON ROAD CAMPS IN SINGAPORE AND IN KOBE AND NOMCACHI CAMPS IN JAPAN. RAN HIS OWN BUILDING CONTRACTING BUSINESS BEFORE ENTERING STATE PARLIAMENT. PRIOR TO WORLD WAR TWO WAS A MEMBER OF THE MILITIA. The AWM suggest's that he may have drowned in the sinking of the Rakuyo Maru after spending time in a Thai POW camp; however I have been unable to confirm either of these. Does anyone have any information or surggestions on where I may be able to find a POW nominal roll? Thanks Jenna

Comment: Looking for anyone who knew of my uncle Arthur W O'Neill, VX28900, 2/22 Infantry Battalion, died in the sinking of the Monteovideo coming from Rabaul 22 June 1942

Comment: Regarding the group photo of 24 soldiers it is not a photo of a band. These men are of the 2/10 field ambulance and the photo was taken in Rabaul. My father, Thomas Webb, is on this photo and in one of his letters he tells my mother that they had their photos taken today. Norma Tonks nee Webb.

Comment: My dad was Gunner Frederick Thomas McCarthy(MacCarthy) 2/10 Batallion 8th Division QX10514 captured malaya WW2 Prisoner in changi. Can you supply more info on this mission he died of cancer 1995 84 yrs old

Comment: Hello my fathers name is Donald James Tuffe Robertson QX 11222 of the 2/15 Bn AIF enlisted in Townsville Queensland. He was a POW in an Italian camp from 1941 till 1943. He made his escape over the Swiss Alps to the Swiss Guard. I was lookin for information on when he got captured and where he got captured. Also trying to find out which camp he was in while he was a POW. I think it may have been campo 106 He had a diary which was written in a prayer book, but only tells of his escape over the Alps and walking into the Swiss Guard. Thanks, Don Robertson.
